The City Commission approved a zoning change for approximately 1.47 acres located northeast of the intersection of South Amelia Avenue and East Howry Avenue. The property's zoning was changed from C-2 (General Commercial) to Ace Hardware PD (Planned Development). The decision was made on second reading of the ordinance, with no public comment during the hearing. In a separate action, the City Commission also approved a zoning change for approximately 23.33 acres at the northeast corner of International Speedway Blvd. and N. Spring Garden Ave. The zoning was changed from Volusia County's R-3C (Urban Single Family) to the City of Deland's BR (Business Retail). This ordinance passed on first reading with a 4-1 vote. Several residents expressed concerns about traffic and the loss of green space during the public hearing for this second zoning change. The City also approved a purchase contract for a future East Side Fire Station Site.
