Minutes

The Flag and Memorial Committee met on May 19, 2026. A project to install a flag and flagpole at Kirk Point Riverside Park was discussed. Member Therriault reported that the cost of the pole could be as much as $5,000 and that he is working with Home Depot and Lowes for support. Solar power is available for the flagpole. The committee also discussed a fundraiser event hosted by the Elks Lodge for a $15 per plate dinner and the USA 250th Parade with a 50-float limit and $250 entry fee. Memorial Day ceremonies were planned for May 25, 2026, at Day Street Cemetery and downtown Titusville. A decision was deferred on the Astronaut Memorial Ceremony's start time (11:00 a.m. vs. 1:00 p.m.). Power issues at Day Street Cemetery are being resolved. During a roundtable discussion, it was noted that LaGrange Cemetery had 216 American flags replaced, and the organization now has over 600 members. ShuttleFest V is scheduled for June 19-21 with excellent sales and seven astronauts attending. The museum will close for renovations from July 4-18. A new conference facility is in good use.
