The West Melbourne Business Advisory Board is reviewing a proposal for a pilot program of 10 statues/mascots to be placed throughout the city. The program aims to promote community identity and provide local entities with a creative way to represent themselves. There are two proposed options: Option A, where the City Council and City staff organize the program, and Option B, where the Chamber of Commerce promotes the program. The statues would be fiberglass and funded by the City, with businesses covering customization costs. A previous Beautification Award program existed from 2000-2011, with policies and procedures established in 2011, but has not been active since 2023. The City is also planning to purchase approximately 24 acres along Minton Road for a new City park.
