Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners ratified an emergency contract for work at the Alexander Orr Water Treatment Plant. The contract, No. EC-298173, was awarded to Industrial Divers Corp. Inc. for $268,298.00 to address an unexpected underwater obstruction of calcium carbonate buildup in the common channel supplying Contact Basin #4. This obstruction restricted water flow, reduced the plant's hydraulic capacity, and posed a risk to water quality and regulatory compliance. The emergency declaration allowed for specialized divers to clear the blockage and perform additional cleaning identified during the inspection, preventing sediment from entering the filtration system and ensuring normal plant operations. The Water Renewal and Replacement Fund will cover the cost.
