Miami-Dade County Commissioners considered a resolution to authorize additional expenditure authority for the Bus Passenger Shelter Program. The program, managed by the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) and contracted with Outfront Media Group, LLC, aims to install 500 additional bus passenger shelters with illumination systems and trash receptacles in the Unincorporated Municipal Service Area (UMSA). During committee discussions, concerns were raised by Senator Garcia regarding the vendor's prior contract and additional funding request, the use of County dollars, and the revenue sharing from advertising. Ms. Miller clarified the funding and revenue model. Chairman Gilbert III inquired about maintenance responsibilities, and Vice Chairwoman Regalado suggested revisiting advertising rules to potentially increase revenue. Commissioner Bermudez sought assurance that the vendor would comply with political advertising ordinances. The timeline for installation was discussed, with a commitment to provide specific completion dates for District 2.
