Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution R-480-26, ratifying a competitive contract award to Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc. for $6,729,260.00. The contract is for the purchase and overhaul of 10 rail vehicle trucks for the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), specifically to replace components damaged in accidents and derailments and to complete six-year overhauls. Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc. is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), and the components are proprietary. The contract was awarded under Prequalification Pool No. FB-01645P, Rail Parts and Services Pool. Commissioner Bermudez expressed concern about the delay in presenting the contract ratification, which was awarded in December 2023, to the Board nearly two and a half years later. DTPW is implementing steps to prevent similar delays in the future. Funding is from Mobility Impact Fees.
