Miami-Dade County is creating a Solid Waste Advisory Board to guide the development and implementation of long-term solid waste management strategies. The board will consist of 15 voting members with expertise in areas such as finance, solid waste management, landfill operations, recycling, and environmental compliance. Members cannot be employees of county vendors or contractors. The board will advise the Board of County Commissioners on matters including financial stability, cost maintenance, compliance with the Comprehensive Development Master Plan, innovative disposal solutions, and improving reuse and recycling. The board is established for five years unless extended. The ordinance was adopted on first reading by the Board of County Commissioners on 2/18/2026, deferred by the Infrastructure, Innovation & Technology Committee on 4/15/2026, forwarded with a favorable recommendation on 5/13/2026, and amended on 6/2/2026.
