CREATE ADVISORY BOARD TO COUNTY COMMISSION ON SOLID WASTE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · ordinance

Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing and implementing long-term, financially and environmentally sustainable solid waste management strategies. The board will consist of 15 voting members with relevant experience in finance, solid waste management, environmental compliance, and related fields. Members cannot be employees of vendors or contractors of Miami-Dade County. The board is intended to help address challenges such as landfill capacity issues and the loss of waste reduction capabilities following a fire at the Resources Recovery Facility (RRF). The ordinance was adopted on first reading on 2/18/2026, deferred on 4/15/2026, forwarded with a favorable recommendation on 5/13/2026, and amended on 6/2/2026. The board will sunset five years after its establishment unless extended.
