Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will consist of 15 voting members with expertise in solid waste management, finance, and related fields. Its purpose is to advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing long-term, sustainable solid waste management strategies, addressing challenges such as landfill capacity and the impact of the RRF fire. The board is intended to help identify new technologies, maintain reasonable costs, and improve recycling and waste diversion. The ordinance was amended and forwarded with a favorable recommendation by the Infrastructure, Innovation & Technology Committee on May 13, 2026, and amended by the Board of County Commissioners on June 2, 2026. The board will sunset five years after its establishment unless extended. No public comment was recorded during the Infrastructure, Innovation & Technology Committee meeting.
