Miami-Dade County Commissioners adopted a resolution authorizing an additional five years and $14,125,000 in expenditure authority for Prequalification Pool No. RTQ-01778, Elderly Meal Services, for the Community Services Department. This brings the total modified cumulative pool amount to $29,125,000. The extension allows for continued provision of nutritious meals to elderly clients through congregate meal sites, adult care centers, and Meals on Wheels. Nine prequalified vendors, all with local addresses, are currently in the pool. During a Safety and Health Committee meeting, Commissioner Lopez requested clarification on vendor locations and services provided to seniors in District 5, expressing concern about food insecurity and reduced meal services in some senior buildings. Ms. Burgos confirmed that a list of vendors and their service areas could be provided, explaining that meals are delivered via congregate sites, adult care centers, and Meals on Wheels for homebound individuals. The extension aims to maintain efficiency and reduce administrative burdens for both vendors and the County. Any contract award under the pool exceeding $5,000,000 requires Board ratification.
