HOLE IN THE DOUGHNUT CONVEYANCE

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved the conveyance of 32 acres of vacant county-owned land adjacent to the Homestead Air Reserve Base to the United States of America, acting through the Department of the Air Force. The land, identified by portions of Folio Nos. 30-7901-000-0090, 30-7901-000-0210, and 30-7901-000-0220, will be used for military purposes to support national defense interests. The conveyance is at no cost, and provisions regarding appraisals were waived. The decision was approved by an 11-0 vote on June 2, 2026. During committee review, Commissioner Cohen Higgins sought clarification regarding the conveyance of land in another commissioner's district, which was provided by the sponsor, Commissioner Regalado, who confirmed support from the district commissioner and Congressman Carlos Giménez. The land was originally transferred to the County from the U.S. Government at no cost and will be returned under similar terms. Water main extensions will be required for water connectivity, and the Air Force must obtain easements. An environmental baseline study by HARB is pending.
