Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved the conveyance of 32 acres of vacant county-owned land adjacent to the Homestead Air Reserve Base to the United States of America, acting through the Department of the Air Force. The land, identified by portions of Folio Nos. 30-7901-000-0090, 30-7901-000-0210, and 30-7901-000-0220, will be used for military purposes to support national defense interests. The conveyance is at no cost, and provisions regarding appraisals were waived. The decision was made by an 11-0 vote. Public comment during committee review indicated support for the item, with clarification sought regarding the district commissioner's support and the process for conveying land in another commissioner's district. The District Commissioner confirmed support, noting the item's long development and regional significance. The land was originally transferred to the County from the U.S. Government at no cost and is being returned under similar conditions. Water main extensions will be required for water connectivity, and the Air Force must obtain easements. An environmental baseline study by HARB is pending.
