Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved an additional expenditure authority of $61,320,728.00 for Contract No. D-10253, Motorola Public Safety Radios and Capital Infrastructure. This brings the total modified contract amount to $121,320,728.00. The additional funds are for multiple county departments, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR), Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), and Communications, Information and Technology Department (CITD), to upgrade critical communications infrastructure. MDCR requires replacement of approximately 2,800 aging radios that are nearly 17 years old, exceeding their 7-year useful life. MDFR's allocation supports phases one and two of the Integrated Command and Communications Center (IC3), system operations, maintenance, and equipment purchases. CITD's funds support the Premier One Computer-Aided Dispatch system. The contract was amended and approved by the Board of County Commissioners on June 16, 2026. Public comment included concerns about pricing, vendor reliance, and the timeline for MDCR radio replacement. Senator Garcia requested confirmation of the expenditure authority and details on radio costs and interoperability. Dr. Edwards confirmed the amount was additional allocation and interoperability would not be affected. Chief Jadallah and Ms. Green discussed the operability and longevity of existing systems, with Ms. Green confirming MDCR had not yet received replacement radios. Commissioner Gonzalez inquired about connectivity and the number of municipalities using Motorola radios, with Dr. Edwards listing several.
