MOTOROLA RADIOS - MOD

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-16 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved an amended resolution authorizing an additional expenditure of $61,320,728.00 for Contract No. D-10253, Motorola Public Safety Radios and Capital Infrastructure. This brings the total modified contract amount to $121,320,728.00. The funds are for multiple county departments, primarily for critical communications infrastructure upgrades for the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR), Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), and Communications, Information and Technology Department (CITD). MDCR requires replacement of approximately 2,800 aging radios that are nearly 17 years old, exceeding their 7-year useful life. MDFR's allocation supports phases one and two of the Integrated Command and Communications Center (IC3), system operations, maintenance, and equipment purchases. CITD's allocation supports the Premier One Computer-Aided Dispatch system and radio procurement. The contract was initially approved in 2022 for $165,000,000. Public comment included concerns about pricing, reliance on a single vendor, and the timeline for MDCR's radio replacement. Commissioners questioned the cost per unit, interoperability, and the necessity of standardization. Staff confirmed the need for interoperability among public safety agencies and addressed pricing discrepancies by explaining the purchase of multiple radio models and ancillary items.
