MOTOROLA RADIOS - MOD
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-16 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved an amendment to Contract No. D-10253 for Motorola Public Safety Radios and Capital Infrastructure. The amendment authorizes an additional expenditure of $61,320,728.00, bringing the total modified contract amount to $121,320,728.00. This funding is for multiple county departments, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR), Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), and Communications, Information and Technology Department (CITD). The MDCR requires replacement of approximately 2,800 aging radios that have exceeded their useful life. MDFR requires funding for phases one and two of the Integrated Command and Communications Center (IC3), ongoing system operations, maintenance and support services for APX NEXT radios and Visilink, and equipment for new vehicles. CITD requires funding for portable radios, hardware refreshes, and redundancy enhancements for the Premier One Computer-Aided Dispatch system. The contract was originally approved in 2022 for $165,000,000. The contract expires on August 3, 2027. Public comment included concerns about the cost per radio, dependence on a single vendor, and the need for standardization. Commissioners questioned the timeline for MDCR radio replacement and sought clarification on pricing discrepancies.
