MOTOROLA RADIOS - MOD

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-16 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved an additional expenditure authority of $61,320,728.00 for Contract No. D-10253, Motorola Public Safety Radios and Capital Infrastructure. This modification increases the total contract amount to $121,320,728.00 and supports multiple county departments, including the Fire Rescue Department (MDFR), Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), and Communications, Information and Technology Department (CITD). The MDCR requires replacement of approximately 2,800 aging radios that are nearly 17 years old, exceeding their seven-year useful life. MDFR's allocation supports phases one and two of the Integrated Command and Communications Center (IC3), system operations, maintenance, and equipment purchases. CITD's funds are for portable radios, hardware refreshes, and redundancy enhancements for the Premier One Computer-Aided Dispatch system. The contract was amended and approved by a vote of 12-0. During the Intergovernmental and Economic Impact Committee meeting, concerns were raised regarding the cost per radio, interoperability, and the timeline for MDCR's radio replacement. Staff confirmed that the Motorola system is used by numerous municipalities and public safety agencies in Miami-Dade County, and that the P25 protocol allows for interoperability between different radio systems. The contract expires on August 3, 2027.
