Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved an amended resolution authorizing an additional expenditure of $61,320,728.00 for Contract No. D-10253, Motorola Public Safety Radios and Capital Infrastructure. This brings the total modified contract amount to $121,320,728.00. The funds are for multiple county departments, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR), Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), and Communications, Information and Technology Department (CITD). A representative from L3Harris stated radios cost $8,000 per unit, while staff clarified the cost was $6,400 per unit, with a discussion about different models and ancillary items contributing to the total cost for MDCR. Interoperability between different radio systems was discussed, with confirmation that a P25 protocol allows communication between different brands, though public safety agencies are encouraged to use the same platform for optimal interoperability.
