SAME DAY PERMIT PROGRAM

Miami-Dade County proposed an ordinance to create a Same-Day Permitting Program for certain minor residential projects. The program aimed to streamline the permitting process for projects like fences (under 6 feet), gates, stairs, railings, driveways, pavers, trusses, pools, windows, doors, shutters, skylights, garage doors, roofing/re-roofing, kitchen/bathroom remodels, interior/partial demolition, prefabricated sheds, minor non-structural repairs, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs. Projects requiring structural review, located in historic districts, with open code enforcement cases, or to legalize existing violations were excluded. Applicants would submit documents electronically for potential same-day review and approval. The County Mayor or designee was to implement the program and submit bi-annual reports on application numbers, approvals, and reasons for delays. The ordinance was adopted on first reading by the Board of County Commissioners on June 16, 2026, but was later withdrawn by the Policy Council on July 13, 2026.
