Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution R-540-26, authorizing an additional expenditure of $1,901,390.00 for Contract No. FB-00446, Towing Services. This increases the total modified contract amount to $16,558,190.00. The additional funds are for the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) and the People and Internal Operations Department (PIOD) to ensure continuity of towing services for County vehicles, including sedans, trucks, mobile equipment, and buses. The increase accounts for higher towing requests and increased costs, particularly for DTPW's expanding fleet of articulated electric buses and the upcoming South Dade Transit Operations Center. PIOD's request is due to a 16% annual increase in tow requests and a 29% price increase per tow since 2022. The contract, originally established in 2017, covers various towing services including recovery, transportation, and disposal of abandoned property, vehicles, and boats. The contract expires on March 31, 2027. The Board of County Commissioners approved the additional expenditure on June 16, 2026, after a deferral on June 2, 2026, and a favorable recommendation from the Transportation Committee on May 12, 2026.
