TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN MAJOR UPDATE
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution approving the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works' (DTPW) Major Update of the 2026 Transit Development Plan (TDP). This 10-year plan, covering Fiscal Years 2026 through 2035 and branded as MDT10Ahead, serves as a strategic blueprint for transit development and operational guidance, ensuring compliance with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements for state funding. The update includes an analysis of transit services, operating environment, land use integration, demand estimation, and a 10-year capital and operating program. Public involvement included a survey with over 5,000 responses, pop-up events, social media outreach, analysis of 311 calls, and the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) ambassador program. The survey indicated general rider satisfaction and a feeling of safety at stations, with opportunities for improvement in accessing stations and stops. An Advisory Review Committee (ARC) with representatives from various entities provided input. The plan forecasts ridership growth outpacing population growth with the development of premium transit corridors, particularly among choice riders. The adoption is a prerequisite for State Public Transit Block Grant funds.
