BBEETF DISBURSEMENT OF $650K FOR MOORING BUOY PROGRAM

Miami-Dade County is authorizing the disbursement of up to $650,000.00 from the Biscayne Bay Environmental Enhancement Trust Fund for the installation, maintenance, and management of mooring buoys within the Miami-Dade County Mooring Buoy Program. The program, established in 2009 and expanded in 2023, aims to protect natural and artificial reefs by providing boating, fishing, and diving access and preventing anchor damage. The funds will cover quarterly contractor maintenance, including repairs, replacement, or installation of anchors, hardware, lines, and buoys, as well as interim inspections and public education. The Restoration and Enhancement Section of the Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) will oversee these activities. This follows a previous disbursement of $350,000.00 in 2018 which has been fully utilized. The mooring buoys are located offshore in coastal waters of Miami-Dade County, specifically offshore of Commission Districts 4, 5, and 7.
