Miami-Dade County is considering an ordinance to change the municipal boundaries of Florida City, Florida, by annexing an unincorporated area referred to as Area J. The annexation area is legally described as the West 1/2 of Section 23 and the East 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 22, both in Township 57 South, Range 38 East. The ordinance outlines conditions for the annexation, including the reservation of utility tax revenues and residential garbage and refuse collection/disposal to the County, the City's payment of outstanding stormwater bond debt service ($1,709.71), and the County's retention of jurisdiction over certain restrictive covenants and areas/facilities of countywide significance. The ordinance is pending BCC assignment and has an agenda date of 7/21/2026. The City of Florida City applied for this annexation on September 15, 2021. The ordinance will be effective upon the execution of an interlocal agreement between the City and the County and other conditions being met within 180 days of adoption.
