REIMBURSEMENT FOR DISCONTINUED I-95 EXPRESS ROUTES

This legislative item concerns the reimbursement of $3,896,702.00 from Charter County Transportation Surtax Bond Program Funds to the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) operating fund. This reimbursement is for a payment made to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the depreciated value and unauthorized mileage of 15 buses originally purchased for the discontinued I-95 Express Bus Service routes. The buses were redeployed to other routes due to a decline in ridership and bus operator shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was inconsistent with FDOT grant requirements. The project was added to the FY 2026-30 Five-Year Implementation Plan of the People’s Transportation Plan. The Transportation Committee forwarded the item to the BCC with a favorable recommendation on 6/9/2026. The Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) review is required.
