RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution
Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment, sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, aims to increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner. Currently, candidates need to reside in their district for six months prior to the qualifying period. The proposed change would increase this to 365 days (one year) before the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) with a favorable recommendation after a scrivener's error correction. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change with a vote of ten in favor and none against. The election will be held in conjunction with the general election.
