RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, coinciding with the general election. The purpose is to allow voters to decide on amending the Home Rule Charter to increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner. The proposed amendment requires candidates to have been a registered elector of their district for at least 365 days prior to the start of the qualifying period, an increase from the current six months. The resolution was introduced on June 26, 2026, and is scheduled for the Board of County Commissioners agenda on July 21, 2026. A scrivener's error was corrected, changing a reference from Resolution No. R-255-24 to Resolution No. R-225-24. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change with a vote of ten in favor and none against.
