Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment, sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, would increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner to 365 days within their district prior to the start of the qualifying period. The Policy Council forwarded the resolution to the Board of County Commissioners with a favorable recommendation after correcting a scrivener's error. The resolution was assigned by the County Attorney on June 29, 2026, and was before the Board on July 21, 2026.
