FARMWORKERS CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Housing Committee · 2026-04-14 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution retroactively authorizing the County Mayor or designee to apply for, receive, and expend Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant funding from the Florida Department of Education National Farmworker Jobs Program for the Farmworker Career Development Program. This funding, totaling $350,059.00 for FY 2023-2024, $415,656.00 for FY 2024-2025, and $415,656.00 for FY 2025-2026, will be used for vocational and educational career development services and training for farmworkers and their families. The resolution also authorizes the execution of various project award notifications, amendments, a Memorandum of Understanding with CareerSource South Florida, and affiliation agreements with educational and training institutions. These agreements cover training for Class D Security Officer, Commercial Tractor/Trailer Operator, Home Health Aide, Nursing Assistant, CPR, BLS, Phlebotomy and EKG, Class G Firearm, Class-A Automatic Transmission, and Passenger and School Bus Operator. The County Mayor or designee is authorized to apply for and expend future funds for up to 10 years. The resolution waives certain requirements and allows for the execution of necessary agreements. The program has a countywide scope and has assisted over 540 farmworkers since FY 2022-2023, with 174 individuals securing improved job opportunities.
