DEMOLITION OF ARTHUR MAYS VILLAS PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
Housing Committee · 2026-06-09 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners is authorizing the submission of a demolition application to HUD for a portion of the Arthur Mays Villas Public Housing Development. This portion consists of 147 units located within a specific site. The demolition is subject to HUD approval. The County Mayor or designee is authorized to competitively select and award a demolition contract through the MCC 7360 Plan, with an estimated cost up to $2,000,000.00. The project is located in District 9. Previous redevelopment efforts via the RAD program were unsuccessful due to funding gaps and proposer withdrawals. A physical needs assessment indicated rehabilitation costs exceeding HUD thresholds, and some buildings have received unsafe structure violation notices, leading to the recommendation for demolition. The County has conducted multiple outreach meetings with residents and plans further engagement with community stakeholders. Thirteen units are currently occupied and will be relocated upon HUD approval. The Housing Committee forwarded this item to the BCC with a favorable recommendation.
