2026 CHARTER AMENDMENT (CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICERS)

Miami-Dade County is calling a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to be held in conjunction with the general election. The purpose is to submit to voters a proposed amendment to the Home Rule Charter. This amendment addresses changes related to the reestablishment of elected County Constitutional Offices (Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, and Supervisor of Elections), clarifies duties of the Clerk and County regarding finance and budget, and requires County employees to take a leave of absence when running for an elected Constitutional Office. The resolution was introduced on 6/26/2026 and amended on 7/13/2026. The Charter Review Task Force recommended placing these changes before the electorate.
