Miami-Dade County is calling a countywide special election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to be held in conjunction with the general election. The purpose is to submit to voters a proposed amendment to the Home Rule Charter. This amendment addresses changes related to the reestablishment of elected County Constitutional Offices (Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, and Supervisor of Elections), clarifies duties of the Clerk and County regarding finance and budget, and requires County employees to take a leave of absence when running for an elected Constitutional Office. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this amendment by a vote of ten in favor and zero against. The resolution was introduced on 6/26/2026 and amended on 7/13/2026. The County Mayor or designee and the Clerk of the Board are authorized to take necessary actions for the election.
