RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION
Policy Council · 2026-07-13 · resolution
Miami-Dade County is calling a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to be held in conjunction with the general election. The purpose is to allow voters to decide on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendments aim to revise the process for calling elections to fill County Commission vacancies and to establish minimum standards for municipal qualifying dates. The Charter Review Task Force recommended these changes, with a vote of seven in favor and one against. The resolution was introduced on June 26, 2026, and is currently in committee. A scrivener's error correction was made on July 9, 2026, changing a reference from Resolution No. R-255-24 to Resolution No. R-225-24. The election will be conducted according to general election laws, with polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
