RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION

Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment would increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner to 365 days within their district prior to the start of the qualifying period, up from the current six months. The resolution was sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins and was forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners with a favorable recommendation after a scrivener's error correction. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change by a vote of ten to none.
