RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION

Policy Council · 2026-07-13 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment would increase the required district residency for candidates running for County Commissioner from six months to 365 days (one year) prior to the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was introduced on June 26, 2026, and is currently in committee. A scrivener's error correction was made on July 9, 2026. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change, with a vote of ten in favor and none against. The question will appear on the ballot as 'Shall the Charter be amended to change the residency requirement for Commission members, increasing the minimum time a candidate must reside within their district from six months to one year before the start of the qualifying period?'.
