LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH KELCO

Transportation Cmte · 2026-07-14 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is considering a resolution to waive formal bid procedures and approve a retroactive license agreement with Kelco Dadeland Associates, Ltd. (Kelco). The agreement allows Kelco to continue using Miami-Dade County property near the Dadeland North Metrorail Station, specifically at the northeast corner of S.W. 70th Avenue and US-1, for maintaining an illuminated directional sign for the Hampton Inn. This agreement replaces a previous one that expired on February 6, 2026. The new agreement is effective retroactively to February 7, 2026, with an initial five-year term and four five-year renewal options, totaling a potential 25 years. Kelco will pay $6,000 annually, with a three percent increase each year. The waiver of formal bid procedures is necessary because Kelco holds vested rights and is the only entity legally authorized to place the sign due to prior zoning variances. The Transportation Committee recommended forwarding this item to the BCC with a favorable recommendation. The BCC is expected to vote on this matter on September 1, 2026.
