25. E-VERIFY:

City Council Meeting · 2026-05-12 · agenda_item

This notice concerns a requirement for contractors to use the E-Verify system for employee work authorization. This applies to sellers and their subcontractors performing work under an agreement with the City of Cocoa. Sellers must register with and use the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's E-Verify system for all employees hired on or after January 1, 2021. They must also ensure subcontractors do the same and obtain affidavits from them. The City requires copies of these affidavits and proof of the seller's own E-Verify registration. This is a planned requirement being reviewed as part of an agreement. Compliance involves administrative tasks and verification processes. Businesses that provide services to the City of Cocoa, especially those with employees, should be aware of this requirement. Understanding and implementing E-Verify procedures is key to fulfilling contractual obligations. Early engagement with the City's procurement or legal departments can clarify specific compliance steps.
