The City of DeLand is planning a project to treat and remove PFAS, or forever chemicals, from its drinking water system. Six of the city's eleven water plants have levels above recommended limits. The project involves adding large resin vessels to capture these chemicals. This work is currently under review by the City Commission. The project is expected to involve site preparation, installation of vessels and piping, and concentrate disposal systems. The estimated cost is nearly $60 million, with financing potentially through a State Revolving Fund loan. Contractors specializing in water treatment infrastructure, site work, concrete, piping, electrical, and mechanical systems could find opportunities. Suppliers of water treatment materials and equipment may also be involved. Reaching out early to the city and its engineering consultant, McKim & Creed, could provide an advantage before bids and permits are finalized.
