The City of Destin Public Works Public Safety Committee has recommended the installation of rapid flashing beacons at two crosswalk locations: Beach Drive near Sandpiper Circle and 101 Matthew Boulevard near the church. The Beach Drive crosswalk will also be upgraded to current FDOT standards, including 10-foot landing areas, 10-foot crosswalk striping, and ADA improvements. The project involves preparing a purchase order, fabrication and delivery of solar-powered beacon systems, and final assembly and installation. This project is currently under review and early engagement could benefit contractors, suppliers, and service providers. Potential work includes site preparation, installation of solar-powered lighting systems, concrete and paving for landing areas, and electrical work for the beacons. Businesses involved in traffic control, electrical installation, concrete work, and landscaping could find opportunities by connecting with the city early in the process before bids and permits are finalized.
