The City of Destin is undertaking a comprehensive rewrite of its Land Development Code (LDC). This project, approved by the City Council in April 2021, has involved extensive review of planning policies, the development of planning areas, and chapter-by-chapter LDC text review. Public workshops have been held with various city boards and the Local Planning Agency (LPA). A draft of Article 9 was presented to the City Council in December 2024. This project is currently under review, following extensive public comment and drafting. The work ahead involves finalizing the code, which could lead to future development opportunities. Local contractors, trades, suppliers, and service providers are encouraged to monitor this process as it moves forward, as the final code will shape future construction and development within the city.
