The City of Ocoee is considering establishing a dedicated Enterprise Fund to support its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division. This initiative is currently under review and aims to improve financial management and operational efficiency for EMS. The proposal includes hiring twelve full-time paramedics and up to six part-time paramedics to ensure adequate staffing and overtime coverage. Additionally, personnel may be reassigned to staff a fourth engine, involving reclassifying positions. This fund could allow surplus funds to roll over to the next budget year and may enable the hiring of subcontractors during the transition period if needed, though an aggressive approach to permanent staffing is preferred. The establishment of this fund is planned for the Proposed FY 2026-2027 Budget.
