The City of Pensacola is considering closing and abandoning an unimproved 10-foot wide portion of an alley way. This alley way is located adjacent to Lots 17 to 20 of Block 61, East Pensacola. The city is proposing this action because the alley way is no longer needed as a public street. The ordinance allows abutting property owners to acquire possession of the vacated alley way. However, the city and existing utility providers will retain an easement for utility purposes. This item is currently under review by the City Council. If approved, the closure and abandonment would allow property owners to potentially use the land. This could lead to future site development or improvements. Contractors specializing in site preparation, grading, concrete work, and utility installation may find opportunities as property owners plan their next steps. Suppliers of construction materials and related services could also be involved. Early engagement with property owners before final permits are issued could be advantageous.
