The Lee Board of County Commissioners is moving forward with the Alico Road Connector Widening Project, identified as Project No. 9245. This project, currently in the design and permitting phase, will be completed in four phases. Phase 1-A involves bridge and culvert construction, along with contractual and permit requirements. Phase II will open new northbound lanes from Green Meadow Road to south of State Road 82 for bi-directional traffic while southbound lanes are finished. Phase I-B will widen Alico Road from Airport Haul Road to Green Meadow Road from two to four lanes. Phase III includes improvements south of State Road 82, intersection work at SR82/Sunshine Boulevard, and widening Sunshine Boulevard from SR 82 to 23rd Street SW. The project is currently under review, with a preferred alignment selected and a Resolution of Necessity adopted for land acquisition. This project will involve significant site clearing, grading, utility work, bridge construction, and road paving.
