Miami-Dade County Commissioners adopted a resolution authorizing an additional five years and $14,125,000 in expenditure authority for Prequalification Pool No. RTQ-01778, Elderly Meal Services, for the Community Services Department. This brings the total modified cumulative pool amount to $29,125,000. The extension allows for continued provision of nutritious meals to elderly clients through congregate meal sites, adult care centers, and Meals on Wheels. Nine prequalified vendors, all with local addresses, are currently in the pool. During a Safety and Health Committee meeting, Commissioner Lopez requested clarification on vendor distribution and service areas within District 5 due to concerns about food insecurity and reduced meal services for seniors. Ms. Burgos confirmed that a list of vendors and their service areas would be provided, detailing delivery through congregate sites, adult care centers, and Meals on Wheels for homebound individuals. The extension aims for greater efficiency and reduced administrative work for both vendors and the County.
