HOLE IN THE DOUGHNUT CONVEYANCE
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Commissioners approved the conveyance of approximately 32 acres of vacant county-owned land adjacent to the Homestead Air Reserve Base to the United States of America for military purposes. The land, identified by portions of Folio Nos. 30-7901-000-0090, 30-7901-000-0210, and 30-7901-000-0220, will be transferred at no cost. An amendment to the resolution specified that approximately 2 of the 32 acres would remain needed by the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR) until no later than June 2027, after which they would also be conveyed to the Air Force. The remaining balance of the 32 acres was declared surplus and conveyed immediately. The conveyance was approved by an 11-0 vote. Public comment focused on the need for clarification regarding the district commissioner's support and a request to convey five acres to the Sheriff's Office, which was not incorporated into the resolution. The land was originally transferred to the County from the U.S. Government at no cost and is being returned under similar terms.
