Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-16 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved an additional expenditure authority of $61,320,728.00 for Contract No. D-10253, Motorola Public Safety Radios and Capital Infrastructure. This brings the total modified contract amount to $121,320,728.00. The funds are for multiple county departments, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR), Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), and Communications, Information and Technology Department (CITD), to upgrade critical communications infrastructure. MDCR requires replacement of approximately 2,800 aging radios. MDFR needs funds for phases one and two of the Integrated Command and Communications Center (IC3), system operations, maintenance, support services, and equipment for new vehicles. CITD requires funds for portable radios, hardware refreshes, and redundancy enhancements for the Premier One Computer-Aided Dispatch system. The contract was amended and approved by the Board of County Commissioners on June 16, 2026, with a vote of 12-0. Public comment included concerns about pricing, vendor dependency, and the timeline for MDCR radio replacement.
