Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution R-504-26, approving the first amendment to the Professional Services Agreement (PSA) with Arquitectonica International, Inc. for the Coconut Grove Playhouse project (Project No. A-14-CUA-01). This amendment increases the contract amount by $4,248,887.00, bringing the total contract value to $6,647,567.00. The additional funds cover design, construction documents, and construction administration services for a new parking garage building, as well as revised compensation for original scope work due to regulatory delays and prolonged litigation. The contract term is extended from six years to a total of 14 years, with two additional one-year options. Funding is from Convention Development Tax Bonds (Special Obligation Bond Series 2005) and parking revenues. The project has faced significant delays due to regulatory hurdles and legal proceedings, including appeals to the Historic and Environmental Preservation Board and the Planning Zoning and Appeals Board, and court rulings, with the final legal motion denied in October 2024. The County prevailed in all legal challenges. The amendment ensures continued collaboration with Arquitectonica and partners Florida International University and Gable Stage to restore the historic landmark.
