SAME DAY PERMIT PROGRAM

An ordinance was proposed to create Section 8-9 of the Code of Miami-Dade County, Florida, establishing a Same-Day Permitting Program for certain residential projects. The program requires the County Mayor or designee to develop and implement it, and to provide six-month reports on its effectiveness. Eligible projects include fences up to six feet, gates, stairs, railings, driveways, pavers, trusses, pools, windows, doors, shutters, skylights, garage doors, roofing/re-roofing, kitchen/bathroom remodels, interior/partial demolition, prefabricated sheds, minor non-structural repairs, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repair permits. Projects requiring structural review, those in historic districts, with open code enforcement cases, or to legalize existing violations are not eligible. Applicants must submit documents electronically prior to an in-person meeting for same-day review and potential permit approval. The ordinance was adopted on first reading by the Board of County Commissioners on 6/16/2026 and subsequently withdrawn by the Policy Council on 7/13/2026.
