TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN MAJOR UPDATE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution approving the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works' (DTPW) Major Update of the 2026 Transit Development Plan (TDP). This 10-year plan, covering Fiscal Years 2026 through 2035 and branded as MDT10Ahead, serves as a strategic blueprint for transit needs, infrastructure, investment, and anticipated future demand. It is a requirement for receiving State transit funds from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The plan includes an analysis of public involvement, coordination with other planning efforts, the relationship between land use and transit, demand estimation, and a 10-year operating and capital program. Public outreach included a survey with over 5,000 responses, pop-up events, social media efforts, analysis of 311 calls, and the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) ambassador program. The survey indicated general rider satisfaction and feelings of safety at stations, with opportunities for improvement in accessing stations and stops. An Advisory Review Committee (ARC) with representatives from various entities provided input. The plan is coordinated with the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) and other regional partners. Demand estimation forecasts ridership growth outpacing population growth, particularly among choice riders, with the development of additional premium transit corridors. The plan establishes DTPW's 10-year strategic and financial framework for transit investment, ensuring continued eligibility for state funding.
