Resolution calling a countywide special election in Miami-Dade County, Florida, to be held in conjunction with the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to submit to electors the question of whether to amend the Home Rule Charter to revise the process for calling an election to fill commission vacancies and establish minimum standards for municipal qualifying dates. The Board of County Commissioners amended the item on 7/21/2026; the final adopted version is Legislative File Number 261380. The Policy Council forwarded it to the BCC with a favorable recommendation as corrected on 7/13/2026, and forwarded to BCC on 7/14/2026. A scrivener's error was corrected on 7/9/2026, replacing 'Resolution No. R-255-24' with 'Resolution No. R-225-24'. The Charter Review Task Force recommended the referendum by a vote of seven in favor and one against. The ballot question asks: 'Shall the Charter be amended to allow the Board to align the timing of special elections to fill vacancies in the offices of Mayor or County Commissioner with other scheduled elections when such vacancies are caused by resignations to run for other offices, and to establish minimum standards for municipal candidate qualifying periods?'
