RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Resolution adopted by the Miami-Dade County Commission calling a countywide special election to be held in conjunction with the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to ask voters whether to amend the Home Rule Charter to increase the district residency requirement for County Commission candidates from six months to one year before the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was introduced on 6/26/2026, forwarded by the Policy Council on 7/13/2026 with a favorable recommendation as corrected, and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on 7/21/2026. A scrivener's error was corrected on 7/9/2026, changing a reference from Resolution No. R-255-24 to Resolution No. R-225-24. The Charter Review Task Force voted ten in favor and none against recommending the referendum. The ballot question will read: 'Shall the Charter be amended to change the residency requirement for Commission members, increasing the minimum time a candidate must reside within their district from six months to one year before the start of the qualifying period?'
