CHARTER AMENDMENT, ARTICLE 7 ADVERTISING

Policy Council · 2026-07-13 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is calling a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to allow voters to decide on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment aims to expand allowable advertising within county parks. Currently, Article 7 of the Charter permits advertising only in connection with sponsorship of events or facilities, provided it is compatible with the park and does not unreasonably impair public use or damage the park. The amendment seeks to remove the sponsorship requirement, allowing for more revenue-generating advertising, with all generated revenue to be used exclusively for the park where it occurs. This initiative is driven by the Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Department's challenges in generating revenue to support operations and fund new projects. The resolution requires a two-thirds vote of commissioners present for placement on the ballot, and a majority of voters to approve the amendment. The matter was amended by the Policy Council on 7/13/2026.
